Head Injury, Third Down, Hospital Bed

I know it’s been a couple days since I last posted, so I thought I’d get back in the groove with three hint fiction pieces. Normally, I’d separate them out because I’d want each story to stand alone; however, I like them together so that’s what you’ll get.

If you don’t know what hint fiction is, it’s stories that are 25 words or less. I’m not the best at these, but I find them to be great writing exercises. They’re a lot harder than you think. Every word has to count.

Head Injury

He didn’t see the linebacker lead with his head;
he was already on the floor.
Through the stars, he watched the medics run past him.

Third Down

His head was still spinning,
but everyone went through this.
It was a right of passage.
He collapsed before the quarterback called hike.

Hospital Bed

When the doctor asked how I was feeling,
I said “Good, but tired.”
“Don’t close your eyes,” he replied. “You won’t wake up.”
