I know I said I’d have a fiction piece for you all, but lately I’ve been dealing with some tough choices out of my control and I had to get this off my chest. I wrote a fiction piece on Friday in my writing notebook, so I’ll post that for you all soon.

How many of you write to humble yourselves? I learned I was a writer when I realized I couldn’t get through anything in life without reflecting on it afterwards — good or bad.

There are tons of choices I have to make now, and tons of scenarios where I won’t have the freedom to choose the path I wish to take. Some people never get that choice. Regardless of what happens to me, there’s always going to be someone worse off.

It’s very easy to get caught up in all the choices life throws at you. It’s not easy to find someone who’s able to slow you down and bring you back to what matters most either.

As it turns out:
Freedom is the ability
to choose.

There are so many choices to make:
Do I get the 328i?
Or stick with the Benz?

Do I buy drinks for my friends?
Or treat myself to dinner instead?

The kitchen with a view?
Or with the marble that’s blue?

But what about
those who have no choice?

Choose between the two–
You can only pick one:

1) A car for yourself
Or a house to live in?

2) The job you love
Or the job you need?

3) Go to school
or go to sleep hungry?

4) Settle for the violence
or settle for the streets?

5) A bullet in the back
or a bullet in yours?

Luckily for you all, you have the choice between four genres to submit: fiction, flash fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Don’t hesitate because I love them all equally. I look forward to reading everyone’s work and showing it off.

I have a journal that I try to write in every day (but of course like you, life gets in the way) it’s an easy way to ease into it, and get warmed up before a big post. I also love this piece, the way there really are so many options to take, that it may seem like there are no options at all. Good work!

    1. Thank you! It comes down to perspectives and priorities. There’s usually a choice, but for those that don’t actually have one, even the simplest are a luxury.
